The Klamath River is a hidden gem located in the northwest corner of California and southern Oregon. The Lower Klamath River in Northern California, just south of the Oregon border, gently winds through scenic splendor in the northwest corner of this state. The Klamath River, which runs free for 180 miles to the Pacific Ocean, is one of the first rivers in California to be granted National “Wild and Scenic” river status. The Klamath is treasured for its scenic beauty, diverse wildlife and recreational opportunities. There are several local rafting companies. We can help you book a tour when you reserve your spot at the Wildwood.

The Klamath River and its tributaries run through the heart of this region and are renowned for steelhead willing to take a fly. A combination of driftboat and wade fishing is typical of the Klamath. There are several tributaries to these rivers that offer spectacular fishing as well. Days can go by without seeing another angler in this remote corner of California. Starting in late November , the weather turns, but the fishing stays hot with a winter run through February. The Klamath has classic spey runs, incredible nymph water and top-water opportunities. We can help schedule a guide that will take you where the fish are biting.

Before you head out on your next adventure, be sure to stop by the Wildwood Outpost. There you will find local information and maps, basic outdoor supplies like sunscreen and socks, fishing gear, hearty snacks and local beef jerky, drinks and more. You can also book local adventure guides and spa treatments through the outpost.

The Pacific Crest Trail, officially designated as the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) is a long-distance hiking and equestrian trail closely aligned with the highest portion of the Sierra Nevada and Cascade mountain ranges, which lie 100 to 150 miles (160 to 240 km) east of the U.S. Pacific coast. The trail's southern terminus is on the U.S. border with Mexico, just south of Campo, California, and its northern terminus on the Canada–US border on the edge of Manning Park in British Columbia. The Wildwood Tavern and Lodge is located ON the trail. Hundreds of hikers travel through here every year. Many people do shorter local sections starting in Ashland Oregon and heading south for approximately 3 days to Seiad Valley through the Red Buttes Wilderness.

Other local trails are becoming more popular like the Bigfoot Trail that starts right here and ends up at the coast, or backpacking in the nearby Marble Mountains Wilderness or Trinity Alps Wilderness Areas.

The Siskiyou Mountains consists of large hunting territories and varied terrain, including lush forests, grassy flatland valleys, and high mountain wilderness, and is home to a wide variety of huntable game, including black bear, blacktail deer, and  Roosevelt elk. Check state and local laws for hunting times and species allowed. We can connect you with local guides that have been hunting these hills for decades.

There really is GOLD in them thar hills!  Spend some time like the old 49ers with a pick and a pan looking for color. There are a couple local mining clubs to join or strike out on your own. Just make sure you are not claim jumping, and Federal mining laws must be followed.

Siskiyou County is one of the most popular biking destinations in the world. From relaxed rides with stellar views, to rugged mountain biking adventures, there’s a bike ride for everyone in the area. We invite you to explore California's best kept secret bike riding area. Far Northern California is a hidden treasure for cyclists. Visit this gold-rush inspired, high-alpine region for some of the best cycling in the West

Red Buttes Wilderness is situated in both Oregon and California and includes the crest of the Siskiyou Mountains between the Rogue River and Klamath River drainages. The peak is adjacent to a twin summit of nearly equal height, as a result the peaks are often known collectively as the Red Buttes. The jagged appearance of the two summits and their bright red color make them some of the most recognizable peaks in the Siskyous, and are easy to identify from many others peaks in the region. Views from the summit are expansive. To the south the high peaks of the Marble Mountains stand out with Boulder Peak most obvious. Slightly east of the Marbles Mount Shasta is plainly visible. To the east the higher gentler peaks of the Siskiyous are visible in the foreground with Mount Mclouglin behind. To the west the Jagged crest of the Siskiyou Wilderness is visible with the awesome Preston Peak standing most prominent.
